2025 Vigil for Peace and Nonviolence

The Board of Directors of NC Peace Action extends a warm, enthusiastic welcome to new Board member Rev. Floyd Wicker – Pastor of Lillington First Missionary Baptist Church – holding a Doctor of Ministry, Hood Theological Seminary, Clinical Pastoral Education Community. Rev. Wicker is the Founder and President of The People’s Fellowship of North Carolina among many other achievements. His persistent presence for Peace and Nonviolent Action is a boon to our organization, and we heartily welcome him into our endeavors in the quest for a justly peaceful world.

NC Peace Action was pleased to share, endorse, and invite our members to join the People’s Fellowship of North Carolina for a powerful and reflective vigil that came together to address the pressing issues of our time: the triple evils of racism, poverty and militarism. The vigil was on February 12, 2025 on the corner of Murchison Road and Blue Street in Fayetteville, NC from 4-5pm.

From Rev. Floyd Wicker before the vigil: “In the spirit of unity and justice, we will honor the legacy of those who have fought long and hard against injustices and commit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for a more peaceful, equitable, and compassionate world. This vigil will provide a space for reflection, solidarity, fellowship, and action as we seek to raise awareness and inspire change in our community.”

The vigil saw representation from the Quaker House of Fayetteville, Organizing Against Racism of Cumberland County, and NC Peace Action

After the event, Rev. Wicker shared: “We had a great time at the vigil for peace and nonviolence.  There were six of us who participated, I’m sure there would have been more had the weather not been so rainy and cold (although for some unknown reason, that seems to make it that much more enjoyable for me….lol).  We received many honks of support from cars passing by and the fellowship, which is so central to the cause, made the peaceful demonstration a meaningful and worthwhile action.”
