2025 Individual Peacemakers O’Linda Watkins & Al McSurely.
A noted civil rights attorney, McSurely and his wife, Olinda, have spent years fighting racism, discrimination and poverty. They were active in organizing the Moral Monday movement and the Poor People’s Campaign.
2025 Group Peacemakers NC Dems for Palestinian Lives. They helped achieve the passage of the first and only state Democratic Party resolution in the country calling for an arms embargo on Israel. This victory happened because peace activists took action at the precinct, county, district, and state level, and refused to let Palestinian lives be ignored.
Guest speaker Allen Pietrobon, author of Norman Cousins: Peacemaker in the Atomic Age. Norman Cousins was co-founder of SANE, which became Sane/Freeze, which is now Peace Action. You can read more about the history of Peace Action on our National website.
