Who We Are: NC Peace Action is the state-affiliate of Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace advocacy organization. We work to support peace, promote human rights, end wars, abolish nuclear weapons, prevent nuclear war, and stop arms deals to nations committing war crimes. We work to redirect wasteful military spending back into our communities, to stop climate change, and to promote democracy and economic justice.

Who You Are: A current undergraduate college or university student committed to building political awareness & activism on your campus to defend diplomacy and human rights. Ideally, you are a rising freshman, sophomore or junior with prior campus leadership/activism experience, and interest in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, History, or Theology. This Internship may be part of and count as college credit in your major or minor.

What You’ll Do: Our campus organizers establish campus-recognized Peace Action chapters on their campuses. You’ll be part of a network of student organizers on over a dozen campuses throughout the US who are youth leaders in shaping US foreign policy. Here are some of the resources and experiences you’ll have access to:
●  Trainings from leading peace and justice organizations, such as: Amnesty International, Action Corps, Beautiful Trouble, National Priorities Project, FCNL, Peace Action, AFSC, and more.
●  Connecting to field experts on US foreign policy, military intervention, and human rights.
●  Using Peace Action resources to take action on key legislation. We’ll send you up-to-date resources on current legislation shaping US foreign policy — plus all the petitions, call scripts, town hall questions, graphics, and other tools to make a difference.
●  Invitations to national and global webinars and events. We work with a range of international peace organizations to plan various conferences (in-person, hybrid, and virtual) around issues of peace and justice. Peace Action is a NGO that attends United Nations conferences on Nuclear Weapons and other treaties in New York on a regular basis.

How This Works: You’ll connect with us on weekly one-on-one check-in calls, and connect to the entire Peace Action student network and guest experts in monthly conference calls. You’ll be expected to establish a campus club, conduct regular meetings, and plan at least one on-campus event and one virtual or in-person event this semester. The time commitment is about 10 hours per week and you’ll receive a $500 stipend check per semester.

How To Apply: Fill out the Intern Interest form below. A resume / cover letter is helpful but not required. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
