Details About the Student & Young Adult Peacemaker Award
Recommendations: We invite community members to nominate or recommend a student or young adult who has demonstrated commitment to service and helping to meet human needs. We are especially interested in areas of service that can be related to our global community, for example hunger, housing, education, immigration, peace and conflict resolution, environmental protection or others. They must be residents of NC, SC, VA or TN from October 2011 through 2012. You may download the recommendation form and mail to NC Peace Action, 916 Knight Drive, Durham, NC 27712.
Essay: Contestants must submit an essay of 400-600 words describing their community service and how it relates to creating a more peaceful world. This could be an analysis of how your project is or could be applied in poor countries, how it empowers people to find their own solutions, how policies related to your project hamper or support broader application for the betterment of others, or how the project has the potential to address long term solutions to world problems.
Awards: Awards will be made in the Spring of 2012. Winners are also encouraged to speak and write about their experience upon return.
